The Making of Pomp: How it All Began
Posted on 07 December 2015
While this is our first official blog post, it does not mark the beginning of our work on Pomp. Pomp was born back in November of 2011. Before I get too far ahead of myself, let me introduce who “we” is. We are sisters, the very best of friends and business partners, Jessica and Rebecca.
Pomp began with a lot of research, a lot of brainstorming and a lot of running around. We wanted to make sure that we built our collections off of things that were relevant to Wilmington: its character, its venues and most importantly its people. We ventured to Furniture Market in High Point and to the accessories market in Atlanta, Georgia to find the most amazing pieces from all around the world.
Highlights of the trips:
Jessica won an iPhone in High Point and we ran into fellow Wilmingtonian entrepreneurs, Freaker USA in Atlanta!
Once we found our inventory, we needed a place not only to store it, but to showcase it as well. This was definitely the hardest stage in the making of Pomp! It entailed months of blood, sweat and tears (literally) as we painstakingly transformed what used to be a carpet and flooring store to Pomp’s warehouse and showroom. We definitely could not have done it without the help of our friends and family and the wonderful folks Bluewater Flooring. A big thank you to all of them for continuing to answer our phone calls even after we asked for “a quick favor” a few too many times!
Jessica kicked up some (saw) dust, our amazing mom Teresa perfected the pillows and Rebecca got her head stuck in the clouds.
Next was the fun part! The furniture and accessory shipments started coming in and it was like Christmas! We were shrieking with excitement every time we opened a new piece. We couldn’t wait to share it all with the world! Also, it may be a strange love to some, but we have a slight obsession with marketing, typography and design! So we had a blast during the development of all of Pomp’s branding and signage. Our amazing logo and peacock mascot are the handy work of the incredibly talented, Erin Colasacco. She was like a magician, bringing our graphic design dreams to life!
Thanks also to Image Monster, they "Pomped" our rides and also put up all of the building signage. Goodbye Bishop Carpet, Hello Pomp!
...and that brings us to now. We are so excited to have our website live so everyone can see what it means to add Pomp to an event. Email us, call us, or schedule an appointment to come see us at the showroom, we can’t wait to meet you!
A pat on the back and we’re on our way. All of the details were finalized, business cards were printed and we even got an unexpected boost....Pomp was selected as the winner of the Coastal Entrepreneur Awards for Emerging Company!
